This project aims to challenge and change the publics perception of the elderly by demonstrating their true value. The elderly have so much knowledge and wisdom to share and yet they are constantly disregarded and shunned from society.
The Living Data Visualisatio shows the time left before these stories are lost and confined to books. The stories are all very personal accounts of moments in people's lives which they believe are important and younger generations could learn from. The stories range from a personal account of the moon landing to a heart wrenching story of the Holocaust with the smallest amount of time left. The grass on the table represents life being brought back to the stories and the soil extruding out from the table and into the boxes represents death and then the stories being confined to books.
Response to 2015 RSA Design Competition. Brief - Fair Play - Create and eco, educational, fun toy for children. DARTZ - MINIMISING PACKAGING IN STYLE We initially decided that the only way to really tackle this problem would be to develop a system of packaging that leaves zero waste. We decided early on that we would try to create a toy that was not only 100% recycled and 100% recyclable, but would also somehow incorporate the packaging in the design of the toy itself, thus eliminating excess packaging. After looking at a large range of toys and their benefits, we decided that a ‘Build-It-Yourself’ style of toy would not just be the most beneficial in terms of learning, but is also a toy that usually, is built and then discarded along with all of the packaging. We then started to develop a toy car that within the body would contain all of the parts needed for its assembly. We then further developed this idea, to create a kit that would include two cars that can be projected using rubber bands and a start and a finish line, for racing. Deciding that it was important for the point of sale to reflect these values too, we created a device that is refillable. By using recycled cardboard and rubber, the manufacturing costs are far less than those associated with traditional materials, like metal and plastic. Because of the compact design, delivery costs and also CO2 output are much lower. These elements combine to make this product commercially viable.
This is a project I did whilst studying abroad in Germany. I have produced a typeface, magazine and posters to give a brand image for the magazine. The idea behind the magazine was to make the subject of 'space' more trendy and interesting to young people. The design is contemporary, fresh and bold.
This project was created as a graphic artefact to support my dissertation and comes directly from primary research conducted. The book shows how a group of High School students perceive the elderly in society as well as how the elderly would like to be seen by society. The brand book shows the elderly as if they were being branded as a business. The book also takes on the idea of 'two sides of a coin' with the two book bound together back to front.
This is a poster created from primary research investigating the elderly. These objects show how interesting the elderly are and that they have a vast range of knowledge and wisdom to share with the world.
A series of posters which accompany a book showing moments in my fathers life which he believes made him who he is today.
Campaign poster made for Greenpeace, protesting against drilling for oil in the arctic.
The poem 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' by Robert Frost describes a happy situation with a man walking his horse through the woods tryig to make a decision abut which path to take. However, if you look deeper into the poem you see that it is actually the man fighting an inner conflict and trying to decide whether to kill himself or not. I have shown this by having the poem written twice on the poster. The first is a small, waving line running through the page showing the man taking a walk. The second is distorted and messy representing his inner conflict and dark thought.
